Thought – Do We Trust Google More Than We Trust God?

In a day and age where “knowledge” is at our finger tips. Have we learned to rely more on google and the internet than we have God and the Bible?

Think about it, back to a time where either there were no computers OR you just didn’t have one in your house. When someone went to the Dr and received a diagnosis that was bad, they could hardly leave the Dr’s office before praying to God for healing. There was little need to understand what the illness was they knew that if they went to God in prayer then they would be healed.

Now get the same diagnosis today and folks can hardly get out the Dr’s office without pulling out their cell phones, pda’s, laptops and googling whatever the diagnosis was. Then sometime after looking on WebMD, ivillage and the Mayo Clinic online and absolutely inundating ourselves with so much information that we may have given ourselves 8 hours and 42 minutes to live. Having caused ourselves so much worry that forget to cook dinner and say good night to our children. Then we miiight stop and say a quick “oh Lawd Jesus Prayer”.When we do this are we somehow saying that the internet holds answers for us that Christ doesn’t? Don’t get me wrong, I looked up the scriptures that I am going to use on the internet. I feel it has its uses, but the question is are we becoming so comfortable with our internet lives that we are neglecting our spiritual lives?

God is a jealous God, are we making our social networking time a false idol. Does it seem like instead of being something we do that it is something we serve? Deuteronomy 5:9 says “You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected–even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.” So at times are we searching for answers on the internet or having relationships on the internet that in fact impede our relationship with Christ?

For me the answer is simple scripture says this, “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” Psalm 55:22. in other words Christ has always and still will do something for us that the internet and all its information will never be able to do. That simply being to care for you and keep you from falling. The internet relationship is one way and not fulfilling, you might get the information from google, but only God has the answers. Be sure brothers and sisters to keep your relationship with Christ first.

I by no means am saying not to seek knowledge because scripture also says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.” Proverbs 18:15 God does not intend for us to be an ignorant people. However there is a fine line between seeking knowledge and depending on the internet for answers that God should give. Be wise.

Google maps are great but GOD maps are even better. Always remember, Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6

I hope you all have a blessed and safe Saturday.
Be Blessed,

how do you feel Social Networking like Twitter and Facebook factor in? Is that time we could spend studying the Bible, Praying etc. I know I have conversations regarding the Bile on my Facebook page…
