The Bible on Lying and Deception

In the Bible, there are several verses that address the issue of lying and deception. Some of these include:

  • Proverbs 12:22: “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.”
  • Colossians 3:9-10: “Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.”
  • Ephesians 4:25: “Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.”
  • Revelation 21:8: “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

These verses highlight the importance of speaking truthfully and the consequences of lying. It’s also worth noting that the Bible emphasizes the need for forgiveness and second chances, so even if someone has lied in the past, they can seek forgiveness and strive to live a truthful life going forward
