Matthew 10:1–4 – Jesus sends out the Twelve
Jesus gives His twelve disciples authority to cast out demons and heal diseases. He names each of them.

Matthew 10:5–15 – Instructions for the mission
Jesus tells them to go only to Israel, not to Gentiles or Samaritans. He commands them to preach that the kingdom of heaven is near and to heal, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, and cast out demons. He says not to take money or extra clothes—they should rely on hospitality. If a town rejects them, they are to shake the dust off their feet as a warning.

Matthew 10:16–23 – Warning about persecution
Jesus warns they will be like sheep among wolves. They’ll be arrested, beaten, betrayed by family, and hated for His name. But He tells them not to worry what to say—the Spirit will speak through them.

Matthew 10:24–33 – Don’t fear people, fear God
Disciples should expect to be treated like Jesus was. He tells them to boldly proclaim the truth. They shouldn’t fear people who can only kill the body but should fear God, who can destroy soul and body in hell. He reminds them of their value to God and stresses the need to publicly confess Him.

Matthew 10:34–39 – Division and the cost of discipleship
Jesus says He didn’t come to bring peace but a sword. Following Him will divide families. Anyone who loves family more than Him isn’t worthy of Him. You must take up your cross and be willing to lose your life for His sake.

Those who welcome Jesus’s messengers welcome Him. Even small acts of kindness to a disciple will be rewarded.
