Question of the Day – Teen Sex and Protection What's The Godly Approach?
June 9, 2011 in RiverAngel42, Thoughts by onlinefellowship.org
So the other day I was at an appointment and there was a teen girl and her mother. They were sitting close enough to me that I could hear their conversation (yes some would call it being nosey) HOWEVER the girl was there to get Birth Control. This got me to thinking about how we as Christians should, would or have addressed the issue of Teen Sex with our Christian Children.
We live in such a sex crazed society. Unfortunately almost everywhere we go there are sexual overtures and our children no matter how much we try to protect them are bombarded daily with sexual images, peer pressures and if we are honest their own desires. So what would you do? I know we should preach abstinence and saving themselves for marriage. However what would you do if your son or daughter told you that they had already begun to experiment?
Would you be the mother or father to take them to get contraceptives? Or would you scold them and tell them how disappointed your were? Are we as parents setting ourselves up for judgement by giving them tools to stay protected? Do you feel this is condoning the behavior or preventing consequences? What does it say in the Bible about contraceptives? When scripture says to treat our bodies like temples would only abstaining until marriage be doing so? Or does protecting your child’s body from HIV and other STD’s count?
I’m really curious to read your take so open up and share. If you are a teen please feel free to join in and share your story with us as well.
Be Blessed
