I had to post this for you. So many times we hear that we shouldn’t worry and most people will point you to Phillipians 4:6 to help you through a time of worry or distress. That is a great scripture, however it has always been my belief that God’s word and the Bible are a constant. Meaning as humans living cyclical lives that the things that happen to us have all happened before over and over and over again. Therefore it is my belief that there will be supporting or complimentary scriptures for things that have happened more than once or that if you are not living by God’s command will consistently happen. Well here is Joseph Prince’s daily Devotional on a very small scripture that most if not all of us have said, however how many of us have ever taken the time to pick it apart and decipher its true meaning? This was a blessing for me and I hope it is for you as well. Thanks JPMinistry!

Be Blessed

Today’s Bread Is Not For Tomorrow
Matthew 6:11
11Give us this day our daily bread.

Doctors have discovered that worry, stress, fear and anxiety can cause stomach ulcers, high blood pressure and other health problems. The Bible says that a merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones. (Proverbs 17:22) It also says that God wants us to prosper and be in health, even as our soul prospers. (3 John 1:2)

When our church was much smaller, I used to worry a lot about my sermons weeks before I even preached them! I was so stressed that I developed symptoms in my body. Two doctors checked me on separate days and found my blood pressure to be very high. Other tests found traces of blood in my urine. I even had mild panic attacks. I believe that the devil was trying to undermine my ministry and destroy me.

But praise God, He delivered and healed me, and taught me not to worry. Today, the church is a lot bigger and I have learnt by the grace of God not to worry. The verse that set me free was this: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow…” (Matthew 6:34) You see, if you worry about tomorrow, you are trying to live tomorrow today!

My friend, God does not want you to do that. Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.” He did not say, “Give us this day our weekly bread.” God gives us daily bread, not weekly bread. God doesn’t give tomorrow’s bread today. And today’s bread is not meant for tomorrow!

This means that God wants you to live today and not worry about what will happen or what you have to do tomorrow. He gives you sufficient grace for today, not tomorrow.

“But Pastor Prince, I have a very important presentation to give tomorrow!”

Beloved, when tomorrow comes, the bread — provision and grace — will be there. I am not advocating laziness and inactivity. By all means, do your homework, but don’t worry about it. Just trust the One who wants you to give Him all your cares (1 Peter 5:7), and enjoy His peace and life today!

Matthew 14:22-36
Sermon notes:
They are fearful of 2 things
1) The Storm or Situation
2) The Solution

When you allow the things on the outside to get on the inside you begin to go down.
Build up a defense to the things on the outside keep them from getting on the inside.
You don’t want to associate, become tied up with, become intricately involved with people who penetrate your pitch.
Negative, doubtful, fearful, bad news boys who keep comin into your life … begin to leave holes in your faith.
You want to be with people who build you up…. so you can go through it without it going through you.
Whatever your mouth is talkin’ about that’s what your heart is filled with.
They’re afraid of the solution.
God is hard to recognize in a storm.
Stuck on the boat of mediocrity.

Call 1-800-Bishop-2 to donate to Megacare to help in Haiti

Peter is the only one willing to leave the boat.

It’s a spirit that won’t let you be happy.
It’s a spirit that won’t let you have joy.
It’s a spirit that won’t let you walk in confidence.
It’s a spirit that keeps you living in your past.

What would you do if you had no fear?
That is what fear is robbing from you.

1. The Relationship Purpose of the Ten Commandments

When the Pharisees learned that the Sadducees could not argue with Jesus’ answers to them, the Pharisees met together. One Pharisee, who was an expert on the law of Moses, asked Jesus this question to test him:

“Teacher, which command in the law is the most important?”

Jesus answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and most important command.

And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’

All the law and the writings of the prophets depend on these two commands.” (Matthew 22:34-40) NCV

It is interesting and yet not surprising that Jesus did not answer this pharisee’s question with one specific commandment. Instead, Jesus went deeper in stating the heart commandments from which all the commandments originated.

Loving God and our neighbor puts all the other commandments in context. The commandments are encased in RELATIONSHIP. A proper understanding of the law will not be achieved outside of this context.

In the Old Testament the Ten Commandments were a covenant of love given by a personal God for the people of Israel.

“Now therefore, O our God, the great, mighty and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love…”(Neh. 9:32).

In the New Testament the Ten Commandments serve as a guide to lead us to a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ in the new covenant.

The first thing we must understand is the ten commandments were never intended to be an end in themselves. The primary purpose of the law is to restore RELATIONSHIP between holy God and sinful man and establish the foundation for RELATIONSHIP with one another. The commandments are like signposts guiding us on the road to this end. Without such understanding, the Ten Commandments are merely a set of rules that lead to death, discouragement, and pride.

The whole law hangs on these two commandments:

Love the Lord (RELATIONSHIP) and
Love your neighbor (RELATIONSHIP).
God loves people! He gave His law in order to show people their need for a Savior and ultimately to restore fellowship with His most precious of creation – PEOPLE, through the work of Jesus Christ!

We were created for relationship with

God and
one another.

The Ten Commandments are divided accordingly.

Commandments Addressing Relationship with God

No other gods
No idols
God’s name
Keep Sabbath holy

Commandments Addressing Relationship with Others

Honor parents
Do not murder
Do not commit adultery
Do not steal
Do not give false testimony
Do not covet
