The Trumpet Awards Foundation held its Annual Prayer Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Atlanta on January 5, 2012. Rev. Natosha Reid Rice, Esq. from Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church was the keynote speaker. Executive Director Xernona Clayton founded The Trumpet Awards to honor African American achievement. The breakfast included a performance by Ernestine Dillard.

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church is Closing It’s School (Video)

The board of directors at New Birth Christian Academy have decided to temporarily close the school due to debt and a declining enrollment. The closing of the kindergarten through 12th grade school came with short notice to parents and students.

In a statement, New Birth said the closure is “temporary,” and it will do The”everything in its power to reopen the school in the near future.” Officials say the decision to close the school was not related to the sexual allegations against the church’s pastor, Bishop Eddie Long.

He told his congregation on Sunday, “I’m still your pastor. You’ll still receive my direction, you’ve given me some weeks to take care of some family business.”‘

Bishop Eddie Long’s Wife Files for Divorce

Vanessa Long has decided to file for divorce, according to a statement released by her attorneys on 12-2-11.

According to the statement, Vanessa Long, states that “after a great deal of deliberation and prayer, I have decided to terminate my marriage to Bishop Eddie L. Long. Accordingly, I authorized my attorneys to file for divorce on December 1, 2011.”

She went on to state that she hopes the matter can be resolved quickly.

The statement says she will not try the case in the media and intends to make “no further comments concerning the matter.”

Eddie and Vanessa long have been married for 21 years and have two children together.
