Question of The Day – Has Mary Mary Really Gone Too Far? Billboard Monday Mashup Live Performance of Bruno Mars' Just The Way You Are Performance and Lyrics

Watch the entire video below and tell me what you think. There has been a lot of talk lately that Mary Mary has just crossed over too far with their gospel songs. Now they are on Billboards Mash up Monday singing a secular song. Does this push the envelope too far?
Now before you answer, Mary Mary has been on recent interviews saying that there is a need for all types of gospel and all types of outreach. Is there any truth to that statement? Also in all fairness they are singing this song to their daughters, is this scripturally correct?
I’m Adding the Video of them singing Bruno Mars “Just The Way You Are” on Monday Mashup. However I think we need the lyrics too, just so we are clear on the words, etc. before we jump to any conclusions.

Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they’re not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying
She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day
Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don’t see what I see
But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say
When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are
Her lips, her lips
I could kiss them all day if she’d let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy
She’s so beautiful
And I tell her every day
Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you’re searching for
Then just stay the same
So don’t even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say
When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are
The way you are
The way you are
Girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are
When I see your face
There’s not a thing that I would change
Cause you’re amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you’re amazing
Just the way you are

In my opinion, Mary Mary has not gone too far. It seems like in the song that they are saying that a person is good just the way God made them. God wants us all to like the way we are and try out best to be ourselves because that is the way that God made us and he wants us to just be ourselves.

  2. I don’t see why he should be getting flack for that. I’m pretty sure that love comes from God. Our ability to love comes from him. So why should we humans make it seem so dirty if a christian sings a song about love? It doesn’t compromise our christianity if we sing or listen to a song about love.

    1. I believe that the intentions of some are good. We all have different struggles in Christ some struggle with anger, addictions and others lust. I think for those who have struggled with lust hearing those songs might put their minds and actions in the wrong place. Just a thought. All others are welcome.

  3. if the above commenter had listened to the song they’d notice that the lyrics had been changed from ‘she’s so sexy’ to ’cause i’m her mommy’.
some christians really get me angry sometimes . like we’re only supposed to sing about jesus. what about wedding songs talking about love for your partner huh? arent they secular?
this song isnt talking about sex or drugs or alcohol. its about appreciating a females beauty how God created them.

    1. Tris: LOL Don’t let it get you angry. You did the right thing in seeing an error and correcting it. However to address your latter statement regarding love songs and wedding songs there are Christians out there who believe that no, you should not listen to secular music at anytime. Interesting enough a lot of new Christians will also throw out, i guess delete now, their secular music etc when they come to Christ.
I know that Fred Hammond is catching a lot of flack for the dual album he is doing one part Love Songs the other part Gospel. I can’t wait for it to come out.
Be Blessed and thanks for the comment, please come again soon.

  4. Seriously…What Godly mother tells her daughter she “looks” sexy???
If we are to be instilling GODLY attributes then yes this song is totally tipped right over the edge and has fallen off the cliff!
If you wanna have a song that dances in the tulips with the world and can be sung with no Biblical backbone at all then the song is AMAZING…
DO NOT GO DOWN THE ROAD of STYLE…cuz then we go gettin’ into what would they say or or would they talk to their daughter verses them!!!
This question was not about any one style of parenting!!!
So…keep the style of parenting to the secular gossip chick magazines!
This question was PURE Gospel based BIBLE…If God would not be asking or telling me that I look SEXY then I sure should not be telling my girls this!!! AND I NEED NOT to be making excuses that the Christian markets and the Secular Markets need to have a better common ground! Showing Skin in our music is like showing skin in our music!!! It is down right skanky!!!

whatever it takes to get people to Jesus. I believe Mary Mary knows who they are singing for.

  6. I do want to ask one more quick question, Does it make a difference if they are singing the lyrics or the music? Meaning LaShaun Pace has made a career out of taking secular songs, Maxwell and others and singing them in church. She might change a word or two but the original secular music is the exact same. So does he go to far as well? Mary Mary aren’t in a club or a church, does the venue make a difference? Ok That was more than one question!
