Dr. Cornel West Discusses Christianity With Craig Ferguson Late Late Show 11/05/2010

Matthew 25
“It’s what you do for the least of these.”

I must say, I AM NOT A FAN of Craig Ferguson. Most times he is just too much for me, however there was something about this interview, be it the authority or respect that Dr. West commands or the awesome power of God that made this hands down the best interview I have ever seen on his show. I also enjoyed learning more about Dr. West’s position as a “Jazz Type Christian”

  1. I had never seen Craig Ferguson’s show before seeing it last night while on a cross country flight. I only saw the segment with Dr. West and I found the discussion intellectually stimulating and motivating. I look forward to seeing and hearing more from West and Ferguson.

  2. @Hayseed —

I’m not sure how much you know of Cornel West, but intolerant is not a word that comes to mind when I think of him. In fact, he’s incredibly tolerant of others with whom he disagrees. He says it like it is but let’s the chips fall where they may. If you agree, fine; if you don’t, fine. The truth will be known for what it is. Dr. West is incredibly comfortable in his own skin and I don’t think he let’s much get to him.

    1. @ Pat well stated. I was struggling to find the words to say something similar to what you have written.

@ Hayseed The great thing about remaining open minded is that I disliked Craig Ferguson’s show for a while, however I would always give it a second or two before turning the channel. I usually felt that he was disrespectful and belittling to his guest. However after seeing this interview and then being directed to the Tutu interview I have had to stop and think that perhaps my previous thoughts of him were erroneous. Now is he my type of comedian, perhaps not. However will I allow that to formulate my complete opinion of him? No longer. I say this to say that perhaps your judgement of Dr West is similar to mine of Ferguson and that maybe with more exposure to him you might see that some of your assumptions were erroneous as well.

Brother West: You only went on the show to plug your book and personal agenda. You sound like someone who is intolerant of anyone who doesn’t agree with you. I for one thought Craig was very respectful and let you express your views. Get a sense of humor and stop expecting everyone to agree with you. If you believe you don’t need to get human approval. Craig Ferguson would probably disagree with just about everything I believe. So what! Everyone works out their own salvation their own way. I had a revaltion recently about persons saying, “when I found Jesus…” indeed I truly know Jesus found me.

This was an excellent interview with Dr. West. I AM A FAN of Mr. Ferguson, although he is over the top sometimes because he is a comedian, but he can hold him own on the intellcual stage. In fact, if you get the chance to read Mr. Ferguson’s books or watch his interview with Father Desmond Tutu and I assure you your opinion will change. As for Dr. West, I was moved deeply by this interview and Dr. West message. I find him facsinating.

    1. Thanks for the comment! Always open to changing my opinion. I will look for the interview now. Thanks for the insight. Be Blessed! RiverAngel42

    2. By the way, I wanted to let you know that not only did I look up the interview for myself. I posted it on the site for all to see, thank you! I hope to hear from you again!
