Bishop TD Jakes – Words of Advice “Let It Go”

I came across this while I was looking for a sermon by Bishop Jakes. Appearantly he wrote this at the end of 2008.  Now here we are at the end of 2009 and I know that there are those of us, if not all, that some portion of this will still speak to.

Hope you Enjoy!

There are people who can walk away from you.

And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk away from you: let them walk. I don’t want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone.

When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left.

The bible said that, they came out from us that it might be made manifest that they were not for us. For had they been of us, no doubt they would have continued with us. [1 John 2:19]

People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can’t make them stay.

Let them go.

And it doesn’t mean that they are a bad person it just means that their part in the story is over. And you’ve got to know when people’s part in your story is over so that you don’t keep trying to raise the dead.
You’ve got to know when it’s dead.

You’ve got to know when it’s over. Let me tell you something. I’ve got the gift of good-bye. It’s the tenth spiritual gift, I believe in good-bye. It’s not that I’m hateful, it’s that I’m faithful, and I know whatever God means for me to have He’ll give it to me. And if it takes too much sweat I don’t need it. Stop begging people to stay.

Let them go!!

If you are holding on to something that doesn’t belong to you and was never intended for your life, then you need to……

LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to past hurts and pains…………

LET IT GO!!!

If someone can’t treat you right, love you back, and
see your worth…..

LET IT GO!!!

If someone has angered you.

LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge……

LET IT GO!!!

If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addiction……

LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents

LET IT GO!!!

If you have a bad attitude…..

LET IT GO!!!

If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better……

LET IT GO!!!

If you’re stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him……..

LET IT GO!!!

If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship…….

LET IT GO!!!

If you keep trying to help someone who won’t even try to help themselves……

LET IT GO!!!

If you’re feeling depressed and stressed………………

LET IT GO!!!

If there is a particular situation that you are so used to handling yourself and God is saying ‘take your hands off of it,’ then you need to…..

LET IT GO!!!

Let the past be the past. Forget the former things. GOD is doing a new thing for 2009 (There is still time left, if not then we carry on in 2010)

LET IT GO!!!

Get Right or Get Left … think about it, and then.

LET IT G O!!!

‘The Battle is the Lord’s!’

Did anyone read this at the end of last year and take heed to the advice?

What is your testimony from this past year?  Share with us something you “Let Go”. How did it word out for you? We would love to hear!

Is there something you are going to “Let Go” at the end of this year.  What results do you pray to attain?

  3. I really needed to read this. I was in a relationship that was so toxic. I stayed because with him because I didn’t want to be alone. I know that God is a jealous God, and I was wrong for putting another mam before him. I blame myself for a lot of things that went on in my relationship. I thought I was doing right for my kids by staying and putting up with some things. I’m not innocent, I had my faults as well. But when your other half is not meeting you in the middle, not willing to compromise, and always blaming you for everything. It is time to let go. I can honestly say I tried, and forgive him for the hurt and pain that he caused and did to me. And I asked God to forgive me for my wrong doing. I can now move on, live in peace, and drama free. Thank Bishop for these inspiring words. This really did help me to move forward with my life.

Hurtfully again I had to let go of a 7 year relationship, this person left me 3 times and I kept going back because I truly loved him. After all we’ve been through I thought our love finally concurred all, we got engaged I set a date June 21st only to realize that he wasn’t ready. I had gone to David’s Bridal with family friends & even one of his daughters trying on dresses. He stayed with me for a few months only to move back home with his mom, I have a 3 bedroom apartment I live with my son, he wanted to make a man cave (have some place to put his things) he wanted to put a lock on the door he is selfish and somewhat of a hermit he likes to keep to himself at times. He bought a large tv and a surround sound for the room and put his xbox in there for his own entertainment. (This is a 46 yr old man now 47) he wanted to give me $300. dollars a month I told him to pay half rent, half cable & go half on the food. I was told that he couldn’t pay rent in two places me & his momma. So he went back he thought I just wanted him to pay my bills. I’m independent with a good paying hospital job, I can pay my own bills. He was also tired of me accusing him of cheating and being unfaithful well when your not being affectionate, attentive, & not sleeping with me naturally I will feel insecure as if your doing it elsewhere. After reading let it go, I see that it was most necessary. If it was meant for me to have it would of been given to me. God had to eliminate this person out of my life, so he can bless me with the person that truly love and cares for me. I will be 50 next year. I have never been married I trust god and know that he will send me someone that will keep a smile on my face & love me the way I deserve to be loved, someone who I can love and trust, someone just for me. Amen

I’ve gone through a similar situation. And I just met a wonderful man who helps mend the broken pieces of my heart a little every day. This only came about after I read this sermon and decided to no longer wait for the guy I was with to step up and just let him go. Once I truky let him go from my heart I met this new wonderful guy. Every day he reminds me I’m worthy of love and being loved. I don’t think I’d’ve met him if I was still holding on to false hope of the other one.
      Amen indeed!

Hi Phyllis, I know this is 4 years down the line, but we always think relationships where you have to let go is always about man woman relationships, or about friends, business, etc. BUT, what about your own family, your own daughter who walks away from her family and who does not want us to contact her, or even see our grandchildren. God has been talking for months now about letting her go, setting her free. I have done, been kept all the pain and sadness and longing inside of me, and it sometimes is crippling to my life. I realise that letting her go in my heart is what I must do, whilst building a life with new meaning without my daughter and grandchildren. I have to let go for my own survival.
I have listened to this teaching of TD Jakes in 2009, and have always remembered those words, but never realised how close this can cut. Even to let go of your child and grandchildren!
God, please strengthen my heart, fill my heart to the brim with life directly from Your heart; so I can let go without turning bitter or keep on living under a cloak of sadness. I have survived the physical death of my son in 2003, surely God will lead me through this death and bring me to a joyful life again. Until our lost child returns, I will look expectantly to my Father God for life.

EVERY TIME I LISTEN TO YOUR WORD FROM GOD IT SEEMS LIKE I BECOME STRONGER.I LOVE SPENDING LOTS OF TIME WITH GOD.SO WHEN I HEAR PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF I REALLY DO GET A OVER FLOW OF JOY.I NEED YOU TO PRAY FOR MY HUSBAND AND I BECAUSE WE ARE SEPARATED AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO.MY HUSBAND HAS A DRUG PROBLEM THAT I CAN’T BE APART OFF BECAUSE IT WEIGHT ME DOWN AND WHEN EVER HE’S LIVING AT HOME WITH ME IT SEEM TO ME THAT I CAN’T PROSPEROUS.I’VE SPENT MONEY FOR WELL OVER A YEAR FOR TREATMENTS FOR HIM ,BUT HE WENT BACK TO THE SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN.I KNOW THAT GOD DOESN’T LIKE DIVORCES BUT I JUST CAN’T TAKE IT ANY MORE.PLEASE PRAY FOR US AND OUR MARRIAGE.

This sermon was emailed to me by my mum in early 2009 and after readding it, i felt that uyour sermon spoke to directly to me and what i was going thru at the time, it took me till December 2010 to realise that its was definetly true and at a time when i needed advice a friend emailed me the copy of your sermon AGAIN! , it has been very inspiring and i know that God has a very special plan and purpose for my life, i was holding on to this one person for the past 7 years and yes, it has taken me this long to realise that “my destiny is never tied to someone that left”. Thank you Rev Jakes.

While not a particularly Gody person I’ve always felt drawn to Rev. Jakes. A friend emailed me this sermon at the end of 2007 not knowing that it was exactly what I needed. I read it over and over and it stills inspires me every time I read it. I’d also like to say that I read an article in the Fort Worth Star Telegram several years ago about you. When asked about getting into the political arena you said you felt that was not your calling and you left that to others. I really admired you for that. Sometimes ministers seem to get into these things, and while I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it or wrong for them to air their political views it sort of takes away their “minster” or “pastoral” aura and turns them into a political activist. I don’t have alot of respect for alot of ministers but I’ve always had it for you. Thank You, Rev. Jakes.
